PLAYSAFE PLUS MULCH
MANUFACTURER (Forestry Resources Inc.)
INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES
Playsafe Plus Mulch when installed at a depth of 12 inches, pursuant to you requirements at the time of purchase, will meet the ASTM 1292 Standard for Impact Attenuation of Surfacing Systems Under and Around Playground Equipment Surfacing Guidelines used by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
To install the Playsafe Plus Mulch to your desired depth of 12 inches drive wood stakes into the ground at various locations within the area to be covered, if the product is going to be used over a solid surface place wooden blocks or some other suitable material that can be marked, Measure up from the ground to the recommended depth of 12 inches and mark the stake or blocks with a marker. Spread the Playsafe Plus Mulch to a depth above the mark and stamp down to the original mark to insure a 12 inch depth. Slightly mound in the high use areas of the playground, such as swings, slides etc, to allow for displacement is recommended. Install all the material delivered and remove all stakes or blocks that were used to measure the depth prior to use.
For a smooth finished surface, hand rake. Periodical adjustments of the Playsafe Plus Mulch are required under slides, swings and other concentrated use zones to maintain the 12 inch depth.
WARNING: Failure to install and maintain the Playsafe Plus Mulch at the 12 inch recommended depth may result in an injury and void your warranty.
Proper site preparation and maintenance are important factors in the performance of Playsafe Plus Mulch. Site preparation should begin with the removal of all existing material prior to the installation of the Playsafe Plus Mulch. While material removal is recommended, Playsafe Plus Mulch may be placed on any firm surface. This includes gravel, concrete, asphalt, existing wood mulch and/or other types of surfaces. In addition, the use of a porous barrier cloth or landscaping fabric between existing surfaces and our product is recommended. This helps prevent the mixing or percolation of surface materials such as dirt and mud. The barrier will also retard the growth of weeds or grass. It is also very important to bring your area to grade (eliminating any high or low areas) to achieve uniform coverage of your surface.
The use of a border around the playground perimeter will aid in maintaining the depth of the surface. The border will also diminish the risk of material being kicked or knocked out of the intended playground area decreasing the need for adding replacement material in the future. Borders are made from many different types of materials, Discuss the best alternative with one of our representatives or an architect.
Drainage in the playground area should also be addressed prior to the placement of the playground safety surface. If your existing playground area has standing water or drainage problems prior to the placement of the Play Safe Plus Mulch, then it will continue to have them after the product has been installed; placement of drain tiles or gravel may decrease or eliminate the drainage concerns. Further drainage questions should be addressed to a qualified architect or contractor.
While Forestry Resources Inc. is a manufacturer of loose pine surfaces, we are not an installation contractor. All customers should make arrangements for the installation and placement of our product. Installation can be done easily and quickly with the use of rakes and shovels. Larger playground areas may require the use some form of a front loader such as a Bobcat to place the product in highly accessible areas. It is important to spread or distribute the product evenly for a level and uniform coverage.
We recommend that the product be rinsed with a garden hose prior to use. This is to remove any dirt or dust that may accumulate during processing or shipment.
Periodical raking of the product is necessary to maintain the original installation depth of the surfacing material particularly under slides, swings and other high use zones.
Finally, we suggest periodically turning over the product to enhance its aesthetic appeal and removing debris (leaves and sticks) with either a leaf blower or a rake. A rake may be used to bring the surface back to level and be sure to maintain the original installation depth. This will help ensure that your play area remains fun and safe.
